This seems to be the year of the moose in Chitina. We have had several different female moose along our trail and in our yard this spring. There has also been two yearling bull moose in the neighbors yard. Three of the four have been notably darker than usual. Mikie spotted a beautiful bull moose downtown with a velveteen rack. We have been avidly attempting to get photos of him again. As soon as we do I will update this post. These young calves are enjoying the sunny weather near town lake.
For the past month a momma moose has been hanging out on our back path. This past weekend she brought her new baby to visit. They have now taken up residence by our bunkhouse, which has given us the pleasure of watching her calf grow.
